2009 Japan Media Arts Festival – Call For Entries
Electrofringe partner Japan Media Arts Festival is currently seeking entries for its 2009 competition. The call for entries runs from the 16th of July, to the 25th of September, 2009 with the winning entries being exhibited in The National Art Center, Tokyo in February 2010.

Selected works from the Art, Animation and Entertainment Divisions of the 2008 festival will also be shown at Electrofringe this year.

Japan Media Arts Festival has been an annual event since 1997 with the aim of promoting the creation and development of media arts, defined not only as arts using digital representations and technologies but also as entertainment genres including animation, manga, and games.
The festival recognizes and rewards creative media art works and holds exhibitions, screenings of films, symposiums, and workshops, which give audiences the opportunity to experience the vanguard of media arts.
The festival in 2008 had 2,146 works applied from 44 countries and regions, and attracted over 55,000 visitors. It has become the leading media arts festival in Asia.
The 2009 [13th] Media Arts Festival is calling for applications in the divisions of Art, Entertainment, Animation and Manga from 16 July 2009 to 25 September 2009. Works eligible for application are interactive arts, films, graphics, digital photographs, web arts, games, animations and manga, regardless of whether they were created by professionals or amateurs, as a private production or for commercial purposes. Award-winning works exhibition of the 2009 [13th] Japan Media Arts Festival will be held 3-14 February 2010 at The National Art Center, Tokyo.
Award-winning works will be also presented in more than 20 festivals both at home and abroad including Ars Electronica (Austria), X Media Forum (Russia), SIGGRAPH (the United States), Japan Expo (France), KOBE Biennale (Japan), and SENDAI SHORT FILM FESTIVAL (Japan).
